Commodore File Formats
Most of the information here has been compiled by Peter Schepers
Each article will have a title with information identifying his
work.
While Peter's articles are geared more towards emulators (e.g.,
VICE), I have included more in an attempt to provide a more
detailed listing of file formats available. Due to the flexibility
of the Commodore, there is a large number of application specific
formats that have been created.
If you would like more detailed information, I have included a list
of books at the bottom of this page where you are likely to find
the information you are seeking.
Minor corrections have been done (spelling/grammar, etc.)
Please read the Introduction file where
Peter explains in more detail about his work.

Books relating to files:
-
Inside Commodore DOS, by Richard Immers & Gerald Neufeld

This is a great book and anyone who can master the information
within will be able to understand how so many different file
types can be created on Commodore machines.
-
Commodore 64 Data Files - A Basic Tutorial, by David Miller

If you are seeking more understanding of the basics of the

-

Norbert Szczepanowski

-
1541 User's Guide, by Gerald Neufeld.

Another nice book dealing with the 1541 and files.
This is another one that should be in everyone's library.
